Another thing to consider when renovating a kitchen and choosing a countertop colour is visiting a warehouse and selecting a slab personally. Keep in mind that granite and marble are natural products and there might be a colour variation.

Laminate counters are made out of a particle board and laminated surface. Synthetic coating is heat resistant and comes in gloss, semi-gloss and satin finish. They are easy to work with and might be modified on construction site. Sometimes used as a temporary solution when renovation budget don’t allow for a stone installation.

It is a manmade product composed of 92% quartz particles. Available in a large range of colours with a nonporous surface that resists scratches. Very easy to maintain. No sealing is required. Price point comparable to a natural stone.

Concrete countertops:

Concrete countertops are great choice for minimalist and ultra modern kitchens. A thick and reach look with variety of colours and finishings to chose from. An epoxy coating is often used to help protect the surface from stains and moisture. Price wise concrete is inexpensive material but it takes a great expertise and a lot of labour to build a concrete countertop. In a process of creating many color pigments and other additives are used to obtain desired colour and texture. A steel rebar is required for reinforcement especially around sink area and on overhangs.
